Someone I Used to Know

I used to be so carefree,
so free I did not care
to empathize with others,
in ways I could not dare.

I used to be so shallow
so low I could not see
that becoming isolated
was not the way to be.

I used to know what life was –
what life was all about,
I now know that those insights
now turn my insides out.
