The Dead Do Not Speak To Us

The dead do not speak to us

Except to lie about what killed them:

His body was torn apart by an IED

He died through a rise in racial tension

Bullets separated her aorta while she shopped

She died slowly, like a soldier in battle

Gas descended to fill the children’s lungs with toxin

But they died as martyrs to a cause

So many names

So many victims

So many families

So many

So many forgotten

By too many

Remembering
